From a recommendation, we are talking to a local ice cream producer! They came to us having decided to use a merchant’s “stock box” and asked us to quote against this box. The quantities were of a reasonable size and we could manufacture and still be competitive. We explained that as we would be making the box they could tweak the dimensions (which would mean it would no longer be a “stock” size) and still pay the same price.
We have supplied three different size samples, so the client can ensure the perfect size for him, and we look forward to doing business with another local producer.
All of this goes to prove that it is not always cost effective to use a “stock size” and getting the correct fit is very important. Savings can then be made by having a smaller size, in transport costs, packing time and materials.
